WHO WE ARE
Bring Back The Smile To Nepal began as a one-off fundraising effort by Anna Gurung and her friend Liz Holmes, following the devastating earthquake in Nepal on April 25, 2015.
Within four months of tireless work and fundraising, Anna’s campaign achieved official charitable status from OSCR (the official charity regulator for Scotland). This milestone allowed her to travel to Nepal and begin rebuilding homes and lives in a country she deeply cares about.
With a dedicated team of volunteers and trustees, Bring Back The Smile To Nepal aims to make a lasting impact. Despite being a relatively new charity, Anna’s connection to Nepal runs deep:
Our Story
Anna and Sanu Gurung moved from Nepal to Perthshire, Scotland, to raise their family. Perthshire's terrain, reminiscent of Nepal, made them feel at home. They met in 1993 when Anna first traveled to Nepal. After marrying in 2000, they hoped to raise their family in Nepal, but political unrest forced them to settle in Highland Perthshire.
In October 2014, the Gurung family visited Nepal. When the earthquake struck in April 2015, they anxiously waited to contact their family in the Darachok district. Thankfully, their loved ones were safe, though their homes were destroyed.
Anna, motivated by her love for Nepal, quickly organized a parachute jump fundraiser for Mercy Corps. Realizing the need for more substantial efforts, she established Bring Back The Smile To Nepal, gaining support and charitable status.
